Superfood Sangria

July 2, 2015 by Lottie

IMG_1533I cant believe its already July 4th weekend, I am holding on to everyday of summer. Its crazy how much more energized I feel when the sun is shinning all day long. I cant imagine what it must be like to live where the sun always shines and the weather is always nice. But for now i’ll enjoy the sunlight and warm weather.IMG_1410Summer time means more parties and more summer inspired cocktails. Which can be loaded with tons of fat and sugar. Whenever drinking alcohol I look at is as a splurge so I make sure to keep whatever I am adding in it as a mixer clean of added sugar. Two wrongs don’t make a right and I do enjoy a drink or two….or three .

IMG_1423Then I thought how cool would it be to make a Sangria that actually has greens in it?  Its healthy then right? I came across Green Mustache smoothies. Which are amazing I love how they use the whole vegetable as a pose to just the juice. So the fiber and protein found in the vegetable are all in tact. I am not a huge fan of juices because its simply just sugar found in the fruit or vegetable. So whenever you face the dilemma juice or smoothie pick smoothie!

IMG_1456Sangria normally has some type of fruit juice mixed in it so i thought it would be fun to mix in Green Mustache Mixed Berry! Loaded with greens its the perfect mixture because its sweet from the blended fruit as well. I little went a long way since it has the texture of a smoothie. I also mixed in club soda as a pose to soda for obvious reasons. You still get that fuzz without tons of sugar.

IMG_1447IMG_1495I was so excited to go buy the bottle of wine. I went to the store and talked over my idea with the sales women she helped me pick out Rosé  that would work with the Sangria I had in mind. And gave me some pointers for making it! I recently turned 21 so I am always excited to use my new ID. But I was so disappointed when no one asked to see ID. Do I really look that old? Either way I can officially enjoy this summer Sangria and so should you! I used tons of fresh stone fruit which soaked up all the wine um yummm! IMG_1530This recipe makes a lot of Sangria–two small pitchers. You can easily be cut in half.

Recipe:

  • 1 bottle Rosé
  • 1 cup sliced peaches (or 1-2 medium size peaches)
  • 1 cup sliced plums (or 1-2 medium size plums)
  • 3/4 cup grapes (I used frozen)
  • 1/2 cup Green Mustache Berry Mixed Berry
  • 1/2 cup club soda

In a large pitcher combine all ingredients let sit in the refrigerator at least 2 hours before serving. Note: stir before serving because the smoothie separates.IMG_1553IMG_1563
